โ๏ธ The Narrow Way: Matthew 7:13โ23 and the Deception of โEasyโ EndโTimes Teaching
Foreword
Before you read this, hear me clearly: this is not written to entertain curiosity or to win an argument. It is written as a warning and a call back to the fear of the Lord. In these last days, many voices promise an โeasyโ escape, many teachers speak confidently where Scripture is not clear, and many people follow the crowd without testing what they hear.
Jesus told us ahead of time that the broad road is crowded, and the narrow way is found by few (Matthew 7:13โ14). He also warned us to beware of false prophets, and to judge teaching by its fruit (Matthew 7:15โ20). So, I am asking you to read this message the way a disciple should: with an open Bible, a sober heart, and a willingness to obey whatever the Lord shows you.
My aim is simple: to lift up Jesus Christ crucified, to call the Church to repentance and endurance, and to correct endโtimes teaching that comforts the flesh but does not prepare the soul.
Do Not Follow the Crowd: Jesusโ Narrow Way Warning (Matthew 7:13โ23) and the Rapture Timing Debate
In my message I wrote at midnight this morning (it is now 9:00 PM), I left out some words the Lord gave me. Today, the Holy Spirit is pressing me to write them to youโand to set the theme by Jesusโ warning in Matthew 7:13โ23.
Jesus said, โEnter by the narrow gate.โ The broad way is crowded, and it leads to destruction. The narrow way is hard, and few find it. (Matthew 7:13โ14)
That is why we must be careful when we see โmanyโ believing something. A majority does not prove truth. A crowd does not prove salvation. Jesus Himself said the road that leads to life is found by few.
1) Why there are more preโtrib believers than postโtrib believers
One reason there appear to be more preโtribulation believers than those who expect to endure is this: most people are not truly saved, and many do not make time to study the Bible for themselves. They repeat what they have heard instead of searching the Scriptures with fear of the Lord.
Jesus warned that many are on the broad road. Many will be deceived. Many will be lost. (Matthew 7:13)
And Jesus also warned about false prophets: โBeware of false prophetsโฆ you will know them by their fruits.โ (Matthew 7:15โ20)
So, it should not surprise us that there are many voices teaching confidently about timing, while neglecting the weightier matterโthe gospel of Jesus Christ: His death, His blood, repentance, holiness, and obedience.
The Holy Spirit comes when we preach Christ crucified and call people to repentanceโnot when we argue endlessly about timelines. And the Holy Spirit corrects believers who become consumed with timing while ignoring the cross.
2) Why there is no single, universally accepted teaching on the timing
Another reason there are multiple rapture teachings (pre, mid, post) is because God has not given human beings the power to know the timing of Christโs return.
Jesus said plainly:
โ It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Meโฆโ (Acts 1:7โ8)
The witness of the Church is not โthe day and hour.โ Jesus said no one knows that. (Matthew 24:36)
The witness of the Church is JesusโHis death and resurrectionโand the call to follow Him on the narrow way.
3) Revelation 3:10 in the light of Matthew 7:13โ23
When I read Revelation 3:10, the Holy Spirit does not tell me that the โhour of trialโ is the Great Tribulation, but that it points to the Day of the Lordโthe return of Jesusโand that God will keep His people from His wrath at Christโs return through the rapture.
But hear this warning from Matthew 7:21โ23:
โNot everyone who says to Me, โLord, Lord,โ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heavenโฆ And then I will declare to them, โI never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!โโ
So, the greatest danger is not merely being wrong about a timeline. The greatest danger is being on the broad road while thinking we are safeโcalling Him โLordโ while refusing obedience, repentance, and holiness.
Conclusion
Beloved, do not follow the crowd. Do not trust a teaching because it is popular. Test everything by Scripture. Beware of false prophets. Look for fruit.
And above all: cling to the gospelโJesus Christ crucifiedโand walk the narrow way, because many will say โLord, Lord,โ and only those who do the will of the Father will enter.
A Popular Claim Tested by Scripture: Daniel 9, and Revelation 3:10 vs the PreโTrib Rapture
A man on TV said there will be a preโtribulation rapture because Daniel 9 speaks of a sevenโyear period that pertains to the Jews. From that, he concluded the Church must be raptured before the Great Tribulation. He also pointed to Revelation, saying God will keep His Church from the โhour of trial.โ But from my studies with the Lord, that โhour of trialโ is not the Great Tribulationโit points to the return of Christ.
Hereโs the concise core correction up front:
Neither Daniel 9 nor Revelation teaches a 7โyear โtribulation for the Jews,โ nor a preโtribulation rapture.
The โhour of trialโ in Revelation 3:10 is not the Great Tribulationโit is the Day of the Lord, the moment of Christโs visible return and judgment.
Now letโs walk through each claim and correct it biblically, step by step, with Scripture.
1๏ธโฃ Correction #1 โ Daniel 9 does NOT teach a 7โyear โtribulation for the Jewsโ
Preโtrib teachers often say: โDaniel 9 teaches a future 7โyear tribulation for Israel, so the Church must be removed first.โ
But Daniel 9:27 does not say:
- the 7 years are โthe tribulationโ
- the 7 years are โfor the Jews onlyโ
- the Church must be raptured before it
Daniel 9 is about Messiah, covenant, Jerusalem, and the destruction connected to that prophecyโnot a clear, explicit statement of a future โ7โyear tribulationโ label.
And notice this: the New Testament never calls Daniel 9:27 โthe tribulation.โ
- Jesus never calls Daniel 9:27 โthe tribulation.โ
- Paul never calls Daniel 9:27 โthe tribulation.โ
- John never calls Daniel 9:27 โthe tribulation.โ
So, the preโtrib claim is not stated plainly in the textโit is assumed and then built into a system.
2๏ธโฃ Correction #2 โ Revelation 3:10 does NOT promise escape from the Great Tribulation
Preโtrib teachers quote:
Revelation 3:10 โI will keep you from the hour of trialโฆโ
They claim: โThis means the Church is raptured before the tribulation.โ
But look carefully.
A. โKeep you fromโ = protect through, not remove from
The Greek phrase ฯฮทฯฮฎฯฯ แผฮบ (tฤrฤsล ek) means:
- to guard through
- to preserve during
- to keep safe in the midst of
We know this because Jesus uses the same phrase:
John 17:15 โI do not ask that You take them out of the world, but that You keep them from the evil one.โ
Same Greek phrase. Same grammar. Same meaning.
Jesus explicitly says:
- NOT remove them
- BUT protect them
So, Revelation 3:10 cannot be used as a guaranteed proof of removal.
3๏ธโฃ Correction #3 โ The โhour of trialโ is the Day of the Lord, not the Great Tribulation
The Lord showed me thisโand Scripture agrees.
The โhour of trialโ in Revelation 3:10 matches:
- the Day of the Lord
- the wrath at Christโs return
- sudden destruction
- fire and vengeance
- the visible appearing of Jesus
Letโs prove it.
Revelation 3:10 โthe hour of trial that is coming on the whole worldโฆโ
Compare with:
- 2 Thessalonians 1:7โ10 โ โWhen the Lord Jesus is revealedโฆ in flaming fireโฆ bringing vengeanceโฆโ
- 1 Thessalonians 5:2โ3 โ โThe Day of the Lordโฆ sudden destructionโฆโ
- Revelation 6:12โ17 โ cosmic signs; people hide; โThe great day of His wrath has come.โ
This is the same event. The โhour of trialโ is the Day of the Lord, not the tribulation.
4๏ธโฃ Correction #4 โ Jesus places His return and the gathering AFTER the tribulation
This alone destroys preโtribulationism.
Matthew 24:29โ31 โImmediately after the tribulationโฆ the sun will be darkenedโฆ then they will see the Son of Man comingโฆ and He will send His angels to gather His elect.โ
This is:
- after the tribulation
- cosmic signs
- Jesus visibly returns
- angels gather the elect (rapture)
- the Day of the Lord begins
Preโtrib teachers say: โMatthew 24 is for Israel, not the church.โ
But Jesus says: โHe will gather His elect.โ
The NT uses โelectโ for:
- the church (Col 3:12; Titus 1:1; Rom 8:33)
- all believers (Rom 9:24โ26)
There is no โIsraelโonly raptureโ in Scripture.
5๏ธโฃ Correction #5 โ Revelation shows the saints present during the tribulation
Preโtrib teachers say: โThe church is gone after Revelation 4.โ
But Revelation shows:
- saints
- believers
- martyrs
- those who keep the commandments of God and faith in Jesus
all during the tribulation.
Revelation 7:14 โThese are the ones coming out of the great tribulationโฆโ
They are:
- washed in the blood of the Lamb
- standing before God
- from every nation
not just Israel.
This is the church.
6๏ธโฃ Correction #6 โ The rapture and resurrection happen at the last trumpet
Preโtrib teachers say: โThe rapture is before the tribulation.โ
But Paul says:
1 Corinthians 15:52 โat the last trumpetโฆโ
And Revelation shows:
- the last trumpet (7th trumpet)
- the resurrection
- the kingdom declared
- the wrath announced
- the saints rewarded
all at the same moment.
This is after the tribulation.
๐ฅ Final Summary: The Biblical Corrections
โ Daniel 9 does NOT teach a 7โyear tribulation for the Jews
It is assumed and then built into a system.
โ Revelation 3:10 does NOT promise escape from the tribulation
It promises protection in the Day of the Lord.
โ The โhour of trialโ is NOT the tribulation
It is the Day of the Lord at Christโs return.
โ Jesus does NOT return before the tribulation
He returns after it.
โ The church is NOT absent from Revelation
Believers are present throughout the tribulation narrative.
โ The rapture is NOT before the tribulation
It is at the last trumpet, after the tribulation.
Scripture Proof: Revelation 3:10โs โHour of Trialโ Is the Day of the LordโChristโs Return, Not the Great Tribulation
I will prove with scripture that the hour of tribulation in Rev 3:10 is talking about the return of Christ
Here is the clear, Scriptureโanchored proof that the โhour of trialโ in Revelation 3:10 is the Day of the Lordโthe return of Christโnot the Great Tribulation.
Iโll give you the core argument first, then walk you through every biblical connection.
โญ Core Proof
The โhour of trialโ in Revelation 3:10 matches every single DayโofโtheโLord passage in the Bible:
- global judgment
- sudden destruction
- fire
- testing of all humanity
- cosmic signs
- Christ revealed
- wrath poured out
It does not match Jesusโ description of the Great Tribulation.
1๏ธโฃ The โhour of trialโ is GLOBAL โ just like the Day of the Lord
Revelation 3:10
โthe hour of trial that is coming on the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth.โ
The Great Tribulation is not global.
Jesus says the Great Tribulation is:
Matthew 24:21
โsuch as has not been from the beginning of the worldโฆโ
But He also says it is centered in Judea:
Matthew 24:16
โthen let those who are in Judea fleeโฆโ
The Great Tribulation is geographically centered, not worldwide.
But the Day of the Lord is worldwide:
Isaiah 13:11
โI will punish the world for its evilโฆโ
Joel 3:2
โI will gather all nationsโฆโ
Zephaniah 1:18
โHe will make a sudden end of all who dwell on the earth.โ
Revelation 3:10 uses the same phrase:
โthose who dwell on the earth.โ
This phrase in Revelation always refers to the wicked who face Godโs final wrath (Rev 6:10; 8:13; 11:10; 13:8; 17:2).
So, the โhour of trialโ is the global judgment of the wicked, not the tribulation of the saints.
2๏ธโฃ The โhour of trialโ is a testing of the wicked โ not persecution of the righteous
The Great Tribulation is Satanโs wrath against believers:
Revelation 12:12
โthe devil has come downโฆ in great wrathโฆโ
Revelation 12:17
โthe dragonโฆ went off to make war on those who keep the commandments of Godโฆโ
Matthew 24:9
โthey will deliver you up to tribulationโฆโ
The Great Tribulation is persecution of the saints.
But Revelation 3:10 says the โhour of trialโ is:
โto test those who dwell on the earth.โ
This is Godโs testing of the wicked, not Satanโs persecution of the righteous.
That matches the Day of the Lord:
Isaiah 24:1โ6
โThe LORD lays waste the earthโฆ the inhabitants suffer for their guiltโฆโ
2 Thessalonians 1:8
โin flaming fire, inflicting vengeanceโฆโ
This is Godโs wrath, not the tribulation.
3๏ธโฃ The โhour of trialโ is short and sudden โ just like the Day of the Lord
The Great Tribulation lasts 3ยฝ years (Dan 7:25; Rev 12:14; Rev 13:5).
But the โhour of trialโ is called an hour:
Revelation 3:10
โthe hour of trialโฆโ
This matches the Day of the Lord:
Revelation 18:10
โin a single hour your judgment has come.โ
Revelation 18:17
โin a single hour all this wealth has been laid waste.โ
Revelation 18:19
โin a single hour she has been laid waste.โ
The Day of the Lord is repeatedly described as:
- sudden
- fast
- catastrophic
- one decisive moment
The Great Tribulation is long, not sudden.
4๏ธโฃ The โhour of trialโ matches the sixth seal, which is the Day of the Lord
Compare Revelation 3:10 with Revelation 6:12โ17:
Revelation 6:12โ17
- sun darkened
- moon blood
- stars fall
- sky rolled back
- people hide
- โthe great day of His wrath has comeโ
This is the Day of the Lord described in:
- Joel 2
- Isaiah 13
- Matthew 24
- 2 Thessalonians 1
And notice:
Revelation 6:17
โthe great day of His wrath has come.โ
Not โhas been happening for 7 years.โ
This is the arrival of wrath at Christโs return.
Revelation 3:10 refers to that moment.
5๏ธโฃ Jesus promises protection from Godโs wrath, not escape from tribulation
1 Thessalonians 1:10
โJesusโฆ delivers us from the wrath to come.โ
1 Thessalonians 5:9
โGod has not appointed us to wrathโฆโ
What wrath?
Paul tells you:
2 Thessalonians 1:7โ10
โWhen the Lord Jesus is revealedโฆ in flaming fireโฆ inflicting vengeanceโฆโ
This is the Day of the Lord, not the tribulation.
Jesus never promises escape from tribulation:
John 16:33
โIn the world you will have tribulationโฆโ
Acts 14:22
โthrough many tribulations we must enter the kingdomโฆโ
But He does promise protection from Godโs wrath:
John 17:15
โI do not ask that You take them out of the world, but that You keep them from the evil one.โ
Same Greek phrase as Revelation 3:10.
โKeep fromโ means protect through, not remove before.
6๏ธโฃ The โhour of trialโ is tied to Christโs coming in Revelation
Revelation 3:11 (the very next verse):
Revelation 3:11
โBehold, I am coming quickly.โ
Jesus connects:
- the โhour of trialโ
- His coming
This is the same pattern in:
Matthew 24:29โ31
โAfter the tribulationโฆ the sun will be darkenedโฆ then they will see the Son of Man comingโฆโ
1 Thessalonians 4โ5
- Coming of the Lord
- Resurrection
- Rapture
- Day of the Lord
- Sudden destruction
All one event.
Revelation 3:10โ11 fits this perfectly.
โญ Final Conclusion
The โhour of trialโ in Revelation 3:10 is:
NOT
- the Great Tribulation
- Satanโs wrath
- persecution of believers
- a 7โyear period
- a Jewish-only event
BUT
- the Day of the Lord
- Godโs wrath
- sudden global judgment
- the moment Christ is revealed
- the fire and vengeance Paul describes
- the sixth seal event
- the wrath believers are saved from
Every Scripture aligns with this.
The Key Distinction That Unlocks Revelation 3:10: Godโs Global Wrath (Day of the Lord) vs Satanโs Persecution (Great Tribulation)
The full, Scriptureโbased proof that the โhour of trialโ in Revelation 3:10 is the Day of the Lord at Christโs return, not the Great Tribulation. Iโll walk you through every biblical connection in a way thatโs clear, structured, and airtight.
โญ THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT KEY
Revelation 3:10 describes Godโs wrath on the whole world.
The Great Tribulation describes Satanโs wrath on the saints.
Those are two completely different events.
Once you see that distinction, the text becomes unmistakable.
1๏ธโฃ The โhour of trialโ is GLOBAL โ the Great Tribulation is NOT
Revelation 3:10
โthe hour of trial that is coming on the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth.โ
Jesusโ Great Tribulation is not global:
Matthew 24:16
โlet those who are in Judea fleeโฆโ
The Great Tribulation is centered in Israel, not the whole world.
But the Day of the Lord is global:
Isaiah 13:11
โI will punish the world for its evilโฆโ
Zephaniah 1:18
โHe will make a sudden end of all who dwell on the earth.โ
Revelation 3:10 uses the same phrase:
โthose who dwell on the earth.โ
In Revelation, that phrase always refers to the wicked under Godโs judgment.
So, the โhour of trialโ is global wrath, not local tribulation.
2๏ธโฃ The โhour of trialโ tests the WICKED โ the Great Tribulation persecutes the RIGHTEOUS
Revelation 3:10 says:
โto test those who dwell on the earth.โ
That phrase is used in Revelation for:
- idolaters
- unbelievers
- the wicked
- those who receive the mark
Never for the church.
But the Great Tribulation is Satanโs persecution of believers:
Revelation 12:17
โthe dragonโฆ went off to make war on those who keep the commandments of Godโฆโ
Matthew 24:9
โthey will deliver you up to tribulationโฆโ
The Great Tribulation = Satanโs wrath The โhour of trialโ = Godโs wrath
Those cannot be the same event.
3๏ธโฃ The โhour of trialโ is SUDDEN โ the Great Tribulation is LONG
Revelation 3:10 calls it:
โthe hour of trialโ
The Great Tribulation lasts 3ยฝ years:
- Daniel 7:25
- Daniel 12:7
- Revelation 12:14
- Revelation 13:5
But the Day of the Lord is repeatedly described as a single sudden moment:
Revelation 18:10
โin a single hour your judgment has come.โ
Revelation 18:17
โin a single hour all this wealth has been laid waste.โ
Revelation 18:19
โin a single hour she has been laid waste.โ
The โhourโ language is DayโofโtheโLord language, not tribulation language.
4๏ธโฃ The โhour of trialโ matches the SIXTH SEAL โ which is the Day of the Lord
Compare Revelation 3:10 with Revelation 6:12โ17:
Revelation 6:12โ17
- sun darkened
- moon blood
- stars fall
- sky rolled back
- people hide
- โthe great day of His wrath has comeโ
This is the Day of the Lord described in:
- Joel 2
- Isaiah 13
- Matthew 24
- 2 Thessalonians 1
And notice:
Revelation 6:17
โthe great day of His wrath has come.โ
Not โhas been happening for 7 years.โ
This is the arrival of Godโs wrath at Christโs return.
Revelation 3:10 refers to that moment.
5๏ธโฃ Jesus promises protection from GODโS WRATH โ not escape from tribulation
1 Thessalonians 1:10
โJesusโฆ delivers us from the wrath to come.โ
1 Thessalonians 5:9
โGod has not appointed us to wrathโฆโ
What wrath?
Paul tells you:
2 Thessalonians 1:7โ10
โWhen the Lord Jesus is revealedโฆ in flaming fireโฆ inflicting vengeanceโฆโ
This is the Day of the Lord, not the tribulation.
Jesus never promises escape from tribulation:
John 16:33
โIn the world you will have tribulationโฆโ
Acts 14:22
โthrough many tribulations we must enter the kingdomโฆโ
But He does promise protection from Godโs wrath:
John 17:15
โI do not ask that You take them out of the world, but that You keep them from the evil one.โ
Same Greek phrase as Revelation 3:10:
- ฯฮทฯฮฎฯฯ แผฮบ (tฤrฤsล ek)
- means protect through, not remove before
Revelation 3:10 cannot mean โrapture before tribulation.โ
6๏ธโฃ Jesus connects the โhour of trialโ directly to HIS COMING
The very next verse:
Revelation 3:11
โBehold, I am coming quickly.โ
Jesus ties:
- the โhour of trialโ
- His return
This is the same pattern in:
Matthew 24:29โ31
โAfter the tribulationโฆ the sun will be darkenedโฆ then they will see the Son of Man comingโฆโ
1 Thessalonians 4โ5
- Coming of the Lord
- Resurrection
- Rapture
- Day of the Lord
- Sudden destruction
All one event.
Revelation 3:10โ11 fits this perfectly.
โญ FINAL PROOF SUMMARY
The โhour of trialโ in Revelation 3:10 is:
NOT:
- the Great Tribulation
- Satanโs wrath
- persecution of believers
- a 7โyear period
- a Jewish-only event
BUT:
- the Day of the Lord
- Godโs wrath
- sudden global judgment
- the moment Christ is revealed
- the fire and vengeance Paul describes
- the sixth seal event
- the wrath believers are saved from
Every Scripture aligns with this.

Breakdown:
- ฯฮทฯฮฎฯฯ แผฮบ (tฤrฤsล ek)
- ฯฮทฯฮญฯ = to keep, guard, preserve
- แผฮบ = out of, from, away from
- Used similarly in John 17:15:โkeep them from (ฯฮทฯฮฎฯแฟฯ ฮฑแฝฯฮฟแฝบฯ แผฮบ) the evil oneโ Jesus explicitly says not to take them out of the world, but to guard them in it. So โkeep fromโ = protect through, not remove beforehand.
- แฝฅฯฮฑฯ ฯฮฟแฟฆ ฯฮตฮนฯฮฑฯฮผฮฟแฟฆ (hลras tou peirasmou)
- แฝฅฯฮฑ = hour, a short, decisive time
- ฯฮตฮนฯฮฑฯฮผฯฯ = trial, testing
- This is a specific, short, decisive moment of testing, not a prolonged 7โyear period.
- แผฯแฝถ ฯแฟฯ ฮฟแผฐฮบฮฟฯ
ฮผฮญฮฝฮทฯ แฝ
ฮปฮทฯ (epi tฤs oikoumenฤs holฤs)
- โupon the whole inhabited worldโ
- Global scopeโmatches DayโofโtheโLord judgment (Isaiah 13:11; Zephaniah 1:18).
- โthose who dwell on the earthโ
- In Revelation, this phrase consistently refers to the wicked, not the church (Rev 6:10; 8:13; 11:10; 13:8; 17:2).
So, in Greek, Revelation 3:10 says:
โBecause you have kept My word of endurance, I also will guard you through/out of the decisive hour of testing that is coming upon the whole world, to test the earthโdwellers (the wicked).โ
That is DayโofโtheโLord language, not Great Tribulation language.
Full timeline: seals, trumpets, bowls, and Christโs return
Seals (Revelation 6โ8)
- Seal 1โ4:Conquest, war, famine, death (Rev 6:1โ8)
- Ongoing judgments, not yet the Day of the Lord.
- Seal 5:Martyrs under the altar (Rev 6:9โ11)
- Saints killed during tribulation; they cry out for vengeance.
- Seal 6:Cosmic signs + terror + โday of His wrath has comeโ (Rev 6:12โ17)
- Sun darkened, moon like blood, stars fall, sky rolled back.
- People hide and say:โFor the great day of His wrath has come.โ
- This matches Matthew 24:29โ31 and OT DayโofโtheโLord passages (Joel 2; Isaiah 13).
- Seal 7:Silence in heaven + introduction of trumpets (Rev 8:1โ2)
- Transition into more detailed judgments.
Trumpets (Revelation 8โ11)
- Trumpets 1โ4: Judgments on earth, sea, rivers, heavens (Rev 8:7โ12).
- Trumpet 5โ6: Demonic torment and massive death (Rev 9).
- Trumpet 7 (last trumpet):
- Kingdom declared:โThe kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christโ (Rev 11:15).
- Wrath announced:โYour wrath cameโ (Rev 11:18).
- Reward for saints:โand the time for rewarding Your servantsโฆโ (Rev 11:18).
- This matches 1 Corinthians 15:52 (โat the last trumpetโ) and 1 Thessalonians 4:16โ17 (coming, resurrection, catching up).
This is the moment of Christโs return, the Day of the Lord, the โhour of trial.โ
Bowls (Revelation 15โ16)
- Bowls are the outpouring of completed wrath:
- โSeven golden bowls full of the wrath of Godโ (Rev 15:7).
- Poured out after the Day of the Lord is declared and Christโs kingdom is established.
So:
- Tribulation = seals 1โ5, rise of Antichrist, persecution of saints.
- Day of the Lord / โhour of trialโ = sixth seal + last trumpet + beginning of bowls.
- Christโs return = after tribulation, at the last trumpet, when wrath begins.
Refutation of every major preโtrib argument (with Scripture)
1. โRevelation 3:10 proves preโtrib rapture.โ
Claim: โKeep you from the hour of trialโ = remove you before tribulation.
Biblical correction:
- Greek: ฯฮทฯฮฎฯฯ แผฮบ = guard/protect, not necessarily remove.
- John 17:15:โI do not ask that You take them out of the world, but that You keep them from the evil one.โ Same phrase, and Jesus explicitly denies removal.
- Scope: โwhole worldโฆ those who dwell on the earthโ = wicked under Godโs wrath, not saints under Satanโs wrath.
- Timing: Connected to โI am coming quicklyโ (Rev 3:11) = Day of the Lord, not start of tribulation.
2. โThe church is not in Revelation after chapter 3.โ
Claim: โWord โchurchโ disappears, so the church is gone.โ
Biblical correction:
- Saints, believers, and those who โkeep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesusโ are clearly present:
- Revelation 7:14:โThese are the ones coming out of the great tribulationโฆ washed in the blood of the Lamb.โ
- Revelation 12:17:โthose who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus.โ
- Revelation 13:7:โit was allowed to make war on the saintsโฆโ
- The NT calls believers โsaintsโ constantly (Rom 1:7; 1 Cor 1:2; Eph 1:1).
- Changing the label from โchurchโ to โsaintsโ doesnโt make them disappear.
3. โThe rapture is before the tribulation.โ
Claim: โWe are taken before the trouble starts.โ
Biblical correction:
- Matthew 24:29โ31:โImmediately after the tribulationโฆ they will see the Son of Man comingโฆ He will send His angelsโฆ gather His elect.โ
- After tribulation
- Visible coming
- Angels gather = rapture
- 1 Thessalonians 4โ5:
- Coming of the Lord, resurrection, catching up (4:16โ17)
- Then Day of the Lord, sudden destruction (5:2โ3)
- Same event, same timing.
- 1 Corinthians 15:52:โat the last trumpetโฆโ
- Last trumpet = Revelation 11:15โ18 (kingdom, wrath, reward).
- Thatโs after tribulation, not before.
4. โThe Great Tribulation is Godโs wrath, so the church must be gone.โ
Claim: โTribulation = wrath, and weโre not appointed to wrath.โ
Biblical correction:
- Great Tribulation = Satanโs wrath and manโs persecution:
- Revelation 12:12:โthe devil has come downโฆ in great wrathโฆโ
- Revelation 12:17:โthe dragonโฆ went off to make war on those who keep the commandments of Godโฆโ
- Matthew 24:9:โthey will deliver you up to tribulationโฆโ
- Godโs wrath = Day of the Lord, not tribulation:
- 1 Thessalonians 1:10; 5:9: delivered from wrath, not tribulation.
- 2 Thessalonians 1:7โ10: wrath when Jesus is revealed in flaming fire.
- Revelation 6:17:โthe great day of His wrath has come.โ
- Believers are promised protection from wrath, not from tribulation (John 16:33; Acts 14:22).
5. โDaniel 9:27 proves a 7โyear tribulation for Israel only.โ
Claim: โ70th week = future 7โyear tribulation, church removed.โ
Biblical correction:
- Daniel 9 never uses the word โtribulation.โ
- The NT never calls Daniel 9:27 โthe tribulation.โ
- Jesusโ Great Tribulation is defined in Matthew 24, not Daniel 9.
- Daniel 7 and 12 give 3ยฝ years of intense persecution, not 7 years of โtribulation for Jews only.โ
- The saints in Daniel are the same kind of people as the saints in RevelationโGodโs people, not a separate category.
VerseโbyโVerse Alignment: Matthew 24 (Jesusโ Timeline) Matched to Revelation (Johnโs Vision)
What part of this hits you hardest right nowโthe Greek, the timeline, or the refutation?
Walking verseโbyโverse through Matthew 24 and lining it up with Revelation.
Overview: Matthew 24 as the narrative, Revelation as the vision
- Matthew 24 โ Jesusโ spoken timeline to the disciples (Olivet Discourse).
- Revelation 6โ13, 19 โ Johnโs vision of the same endโtime realities in symbolic form.
Theyโre not competingโtheyโre two angles on the same sequence.
Structure of Matthew 24
Hereโs the basic flow:
- vv.4โ8 โ โBirth painsโ: deception, wars, famines, earthquakes.
- vv.9โ14 โ Persecution, apostasy, endurance, gospel to all nations.
- vv.15โ22 โ Abomination of desolation, flight, Great Tribulation.
- vv.23โ28 โ False Christs, false signs, warnings about deception.
- vv.29โ31 โ Cosmic signs, after the tribulation, coming of Christ, gathering of the elect.
- vv.32โ51 โ Parables and warnings about watching, suddenness, faithfulness.
Now letโs lay Revelation alongside that.
1. Birth pains (Matthew 24:4โ8) โ Seals 1โ4 (Revelation 6:1โ8)
Matthew 24:6โ8
- Wars and rumors of wars
- Nation against nation
- Famines and earthquakes
- โThese are the beginning of birth pains.โ
Revelation 6:1โ8 โ Seals 1โ4
- Seal 1: White horse โ conquest, false peace.
- Seal 2: Red horse โ war, โtake peace from the earth.โ
- Seal 3: Black horse โ famine.
- Seal 4: Pale horse โ death, pestilence.
These match Jesusโ order:
- False Christs (v.5) โ deceptive conquest (Seal 1).
- Wars (vv.6โ7) โ Seal 2.
- Famines (v.7) โ Seal 3.
- Death (implied in โbirth painsโ) โ Seal 4.
So, Matthew 24:4โ8 = early seals โ general tribulation, not yet the Great Tribulation.
2. Persecution and endurance (Matthew 24:9โ14) โ Seal 5 (Revelation 6:9โ11)
Matthew 24:9โ14
- โThey will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you.โ
- โYou will be hated by all nations.โ
- Many fall away, betray, love grows cold.
- โThe one who endures to the end will be saved.โ
- Gospel preached to all nations.
Revelation 6:9โ11 โ Seal 5
- Souls under the altar who were slain for the word of God and their testimony.
- They cry, โHow long, O Lordโฆ will You not judge and avenge our blood?โ
- Told to rest until the full number of martyrs is complete.
This is the same phase:
- Tribulation on believers.
- Witness, martyrdom, endurance.
- No wrath yetโthis is Satanโs and manโs persecution, not Godโs DayโofโtheโLord wrath.
Matthew 24:9โ14 = Seal 5 atmosphere.
3. Abomination of desolation & flight (Matthew 24:15โ22) โ Beast & image (Revelation 13)
Matthew 24:15โ22
- โWhen you see the abomination of desolationโฆ standing in the holy placeโฆโ
- Those in Judea flee to the mountains.
- โThen there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until nowโฆโ
Revelation 13
- Beast rises, given authority over every tribe, people, language, nation.
- Image of the beast set up; all must worship it.
- No buying or selling without the mark.
This is the same turning point:
- Danielโs abomination โ Beastโs image.
- Israelโs flight โ intense persecution and control.
- Great Tribulation begins hereโthe final, concentrated period of Satanโs wrath.
Matthew 24:15โ22 = Revelation 13 moment.
4. False Christs and deceptive signs (Matthew 24:23โ28) โ Beast & False Prophet (Revelation 13)
Matthew 24:23โ24
- โIf anyone says, โHere is the Christ,โ or โThere He is,โ do not believe it.โ
- False Christs and false prophets show great signs and wonders to mislead, if possible, even the elect.
Revelation 13:13โ14
- False Prophet performs great signs, even calling fire down from heaven.
- Deceives those who dwell on the earth by the signs given to him to perform.
Same dynamic:
- Deceptive signs.
- False claims of authority.
- Global religious deception.
Matthew 24:23โ28 = Revelation 13 deception phase.
5. Cosmic signs & โafter the tribulationโ (Matthew 24:29) โ Sixth seal (Revelation 6:12โ17)
Matthew 24:29
โImmediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, the moon will not give its light, the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.โ
Revelation 6:12โ14 โ Sixth seal
- Great earthquake.
- Sun becomes black like sackcloth.
- Moon becomes like blood.
- Stars fall to earth.
- Sky rolled up like a scroll.
Same signs, same order, same moment.
This is the pivot:
- Great Tribulation (Satanโs wrath) ends.
- Day of the Lord (Godโs wrath) begins.
Matthew 24:29 = Sixth seal.
6. The visible coming & gathering of the elect (Matthew 24:30โ31) โ Day of wrath, great multitude, last trumpet (Revelation 6โ7; 11)
Matthew 24:30โ31
- โThen will appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Manโฆโ
- โThey will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.โ
- โHe will send out His angels with a great trumpet, and they will gather His elect from the four windsโฆโ
Now watch how Revelation lines up:
Revelation 6:15โ17 โ Reaction of the wicked
- Kings, great ones, rich, powerful hide in caves.
- They say:
โHide us from the face of Him who is seated on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb, for the great day of their wrath has comeโฆโ
Thatโs Matthew 24:30 from the wickedโs perspectiveโthey see Him and panic.
Revelation 7:9โ14 โ Great multitude
- A countless multitude from every nation standing before the throne and the Lamb.
- They โcome out of the great tribulationโ and are washed in the blood of the Lamb.
Thatโs Matthew 24:31 from the churchโs perspectiveโthe gathered elect now seen in heaven.
Revelation 11:15โ18 โ Seventh (last) trumpet
- โThe kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ.โ
- โYour wrath came, and the time for the dead to be judged, and for rewarding Your servantsโฆโ
Thatโs the great trumpet of Matthew 24:31 and the trumpet of God in 1 Thessalonians 4:16.
So:
- Matthew 24:30โ31 = Sixth seal + seventh trumpet + gathering of the elect.
- Revelation 6โ7; 11 = same event from multiple angles.
7. Watchfulness and suddenness (Matthew 24:32โ51) โ Day of the Lord warnings (1 Thess 5; Revelation)
Jesus ends Matthew 24 with:
- Fig tree parable โ know the season.
- โNo one knows the day or hour.โ
- Days of Noah โ eating, drinking, sudden judgment.
- Two in the field, one taken, one left.
- Command to watch, be ready, be faithful.
Paul and Revelation echo this:
- 1 Thessalonians 5:2โ3 โ Day of the Lord comes like a thief; sudden destruction.
- Revelation 3:3; 16:15 โ โI will come like a thief.โ
Same tone:
- Suddenness.
- Need for watchfulness.
- Separation between faithful and unfaithful.
Pulling it together: one continuous spine
Hereโs the simplified alignment:
- Matt 24:4โ8 โ Rev 6:1โ8 โ Birth pains โ Seals 1โ4.
- Matt 24:9โ14 โ Rev 6:9โ11 โ Persecution/endurance โ Seal 5.
- Matt 24:15โ22 โ Rev 13 โ Abomination, flight, Great Tribulation โ Beast, image, mark.
- Matt 24:23โ28 โ Rev 13 โ False Christs, deceptive signs โ Beast & False Prophet.
- Matt 24:29 โ Rev 6:12โ17 โ Cosmic signs โafter the tribulationโ โ Sixth seal, Day of wrath.
- Matt 24:30โ31 โ Rev 6โ7; 11 โ Visible coming, great trumpet, gathering โ wrath announced, great multitude, last trumpet.
So, Matthew 24 isnโt a different program from Revelationโitโs the narrative backbone Revelation hangs its visions on.
Epilogue
If you finished this message, then the question is not merely, โWhich timeline is right?โ The question Jesus presses on every heart is: Am I on the narrow wayโand am I truly known by Him? Many will say โLord, Lord,โ and still be turned away (Matthew 7:21โ23). That is why this matters.
So, I leave you with this charge: do not follow the crowd, do not trust a teaching because it is popular, and do not build your hope on what a man says on TV. Test everything by Scripture.
Watch. Pray. Endure. Keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus. And above all, cling to the gospelโJesus Christ crucifiedโand walk in obedience until He comes.
If anything in this message convicts you, donโt argue with itโbring it to the Lord. Repent where you must. Forgive where you must. Make your life ready. The Bridegroom is coming, and only those who do the will of the Father will enter.
