The Anointing: When God Moves Beyond Methods
There is an anointing from the Holy One, and it is not a conceptβit is the living presence of God resting upon a surrendered life. βBut you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all know.β (1 John 2:20) βThe anointing which you have received from Him abides in you.β (1 John 2:27)
Many have been taught that healing must always come by the laying on of hands because Scripture records it. Yet Scripture also records, again and again, that God heals without handsβby a word, by authority, by obedience, by faith, and even at a distance. God is faithful to what is written, but He is not bound by a legalistic approach to what is written. βThe letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.β (2 Corinthians 3:6)
When You Are Anointed, Healing Can Happen Before Hands Are Laid
When the anointing is present, people can be healed while they are still waiting for prayerβbefore anyone touches themβbecause the Holy Spirit is already moving. This is not new. This is the pattern of Christ.
Jesus healed without laying hands on people.
He healed by a word at a distance. The centurion said, βOnly speak a word, and my servant will be healed.β (Matthew 8:8) Jesus answered with authority, and Scripture testifies, βAnd his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.β (Matthew 8:13)
He healed before He arrived. To the nobleman whose son was dying, Jesus said, βGo your way; your son lives.β (John 4:50) When the father returned, he learned the healing had already taken place at the very time Jesus spoke. βSo, the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Your son lives.β (John 4:53)
He delivered and healed at a distance. To the Syrophoenician woman, Jesus declared, βFor this saying go your way; the devil is gone out of your daughter.β (Mark 7:29) And the Word confirms, βAnd when she was come to her house, she found the devil gone out, and her daughter laid upon the bed.β (Mark 7:30)
He healed as people obeyed His instruction. To the ten lepers He did not lay hands on, but commanded, βGo show yourselves unto the priests.β (Luke 17:14) And the miracle unfolded in motion: βAnd it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.β (Luke 17:14)
He healed by forgiving and commandingβwithout touch. When the paralyzed man was lowered through the roof, Jesus spoke, βSon, your sins be forgiven you.β (Mark 2:5) Then He released healing by command: βArise, and take up your bed, and go your way.β (Mark 2:11) And the man rose immediately. βAnd immediately he arose.β (Mark 2:12)
He healed by a simple command of faith. To the man with the withered hand, Jesus said, βStretch forth your hand.β (Matthew 12:13) And the Word says, βAnd he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole.β (Matthew 12:13)
He healed those who cried out and believedβby a word. To blind Bartimaeus, Jesus declared, βGo your way; your faith has made you whole.β (Mark 10:52) And Scripture records, βAnd immediately he received his sight.β (Mark 10:52)
He healed when faith reached for Himβwithout Him laying hands. The woman with the issue of blood said, βIf I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.β (Mark 5:28) And the Word testifies, βAnd straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up.β (Mark 5:29)
He healed multitudes through contact with His presence, not through His hands. βAs many as touched Him were made perfectly whole.β (Matthew 14:36)
So, while you are waiting for prayer, do not waste the waiting. Search the Scriptures and feed your faith with these testimonies. βSo, then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.β (Romans 10:17) For it is written, βHe sent His word, and healed them.β (Psalm 107:20)
A Personal Testimony
After I was baptized in the Holy Spirit in 1991, I saw people getting healed outside churches and stadiums while they were waiting for the meetings and healing services to begin. People were amazed, because they believed they had to approach the preachers, ask for healing, and have hands laid on them in order to be healed.
But that day, when I was baptized in the Holy Spirit, I walked out with two warm, swirling βballsβ of power on my handsβabout the size of basketballs. I felt it. People I touched felt it. Some said they could even see it around my hands, though I never could.
Through this, the Lord showed me that He is not legalisticβHe is not confined to one outward method, or to doing things in only one sequence. What He does is written, but He is not controlled by our rigid formulas.
For example, the book of Acts often shows tongues as a sign accompanying the baptism in the Holy Spirit. βAnd they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues.β (Acts 2:4) Yet the Lord gave me healing first. About a week later, I received tongues, and also the interpretation of tonguesβgifts that Scripture lists among the manifestations of the Spirit. βTo another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues.β (1 Corinthians 12:10)
And this is part of what it means to know God: not merely to read the Bible as information, but to be taught by the Holy Spirit through living fellowship with Him. βBut the Comforter, which is the Holy Spiritβ¦ He shall teach you all things.β (John 14:26)
Forgive Before You Pray: Keep the Flow Unblocked
If you desire the power of God to flow freely, you must guard the heart. Unforgiveness, strife, and disobedience grieve the Holy Spirit and hinder prayer.
Jesus said, βAnd when you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone.β (Mark 11:25) And Scripture warns, βDo not grieve the Holy Spirit of God.β (Ephesians 4:30) The Word also declares, βIf I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me.β (Psalm 66:18)
This is why some who truly believe in healing still ask, βWhy do I believe, yet I am not healed?β Because healing is not only about quoting verses; it is about faith meeting the living presence of God with a clean conscience and a surrendered life.
Healing Is Not Only VersesβIt Is Faith and Anointing
It is possible to have Scriptures in the mouth and still lack the power of God in the life. βFor the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.β (1 Corinthians 4:20)
Yes, the Word reveals healing. But the anointing destroys the yoke: βAnd the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.β (Isaiah 10:27) Many know the letter and argue the method, yet do not know the Spirit who gives life. βHaving a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof.β (2 Timothy 3:5)
Even after Jesus ascended, the Lord continued to heal without hands being laid on the sick.
People were healed as Peterβs shadow passed over them. βThey brought forth the sickβ¦ that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.β (Acts 5:15)
People were healed through cloths carried from Paulβwithout Paul touching them. βFrom his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them.β (Acts 19:11β12)
These are not tricks. These are witnesses that the Holy Spirit is not confined to one outward method. The power belongs to God.
What It Means to Know God: Baptism in the Holy Spirit
To know God is more than agreeing with Scripture. It is to be made alive by the Spirit and empowered by the Spirit.
Jesus said, βYou must be born again.β (John 3:7) And He promised power for witness and ministry: βBut you shall receive power, after that the Holy Spirit has come upon you.β (Acts 1:8) The early believers did not only study promisesβthey received the Spirit: βAnd they were all filled with the Holy Spirit.β (Acts 2:4) And with that infilling came the manifestation of spiritual gifts: βBut the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.β (1 Corinthians 12:7)
A Prophetic Charge
In this hour, God is calling His people out of lifeless religion and into living fellowship. He is raising believers who will not merely speak of miracles, but carry His presence. And when the Holy Spirit rests upon the one He has anointed, healing can manifest before hands are ever laidβby a word, by faith, by obedience, by the authority of Christβbecause Jesus is the Healer.
βJesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.β (Hebrews 13:8)
